New Google Search Options - 01-Feb-08

Through its Google Labs facility, Google is now offering users the opportunity to search and present findings on a map, via timeline or by "info view" - a opportunity to highlight (and filter) dates, locations or images.

Although considered experimental search modes, the new options effectively presents the same results but with geographical location analysis, according to chronology or by image content.

Anyone can experiment by visiting the weblink below. With the map option, location information may be displayed only if the web page contains some Google Maps information.

A further, but separate, option - therefore a completely separate toy - is the ability to break down a search by keywords. I entered "charity" and was initially shown a listing with the number of "results" achieved, e.g charity jobs, charity commission. As with Google Images, this search facility does not allow you to specify a UK-centric search - after all we are in a global community these days. However, there will be plenty of users who will find these new services beneficial.
