AMC's Turn to Social Networking - 17-Mar-09
The AMC Institute, the trade association representing the Association Management industry in America, has released results from a new survey of its members. Results show that within companies that manage associations, three of five associations currently utilise social media tools to help drive membership development and meeting attendance in difficult economic times.
According to the survey, Facebook topped the list of the preferred Web 2.0 platforms, with 77 percent of associations maintaining a presence on the social networking site. Seventy-one percent reported they actively use LinkedIn.
Nearly 90 percent of respondents cited member networking as the greatest benefit of social media activity, with more than half reporting use of social media for membership development. And 75 percent of associations linked their social media activity to efforts to drive meeting attendance and promote member activities.
“In the tightening economy, associations must become increasingly resourceful – and strategic – when it comes to building their membership base, introducing programming and new member initiatives, and more,” said Steve Drake, president of the AMC Institute board of directors. “As the survey results show, our AMC-managed associations are staying on top of the trends and using social media as a creative, cutting-edge way to network, increase awareness and ultimately grow their organizations.”
