Fast Moving Facebook - 18-Aug-09

Everything seems to move at the speed of light these days and Facebook is no exception. News has arrived in the last few days about a new search facility and an acquisition.

The new Facebook search facility has been under test for approximately one month and it is now ready to be rolled out to the full Facebook community. Users can go back in time and search for key words, perhaps relating to a news event or other item that might have been written about by friends on Facebook - or by other members - and it should assist in finding archive items speedily.

Perhaps more significantly, Facebook has agreed to acquire FriendFeed, a content aggregation service created by four former Google employees. One of them is Paul Buchheit, widely credited as being the driving force behind Gmail and Adsense during his Google days.

“Since I first tried FriendFeed, I’ve admired their team for creating such a simple and elegant service for people to share information,” said Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook founder and CEO. "As this shows, our culture continues to make Facebook a place where the best engineers come to build things quickly that lots of people will use."
